Dominique Biedermann
I exercise various mandates of independent board member. From 2012 to 2024 I have been member of the board of directors of the Federation of Migros Cooperatives (the largest Swiss retail company) and its audit committee. Since 2019 I am member of the board of directors of the Swiss Investment Fund for Emerging Markets (SIFEM), the Development Finance Institution of the Swiss Confederation. I am also chairman of the Committee of Ethics and Deontology of the University of Geneva as well as member of the Board of the relief and social organisation Caritas-Genève.
I have been lecturer at the University of Neuchâtel for the course “Socially Responsible Investment and Governance” within the Master in Finance at the faculty of Economics and Business from 2019 to 2023. In parallel, I regularly give seminars in the field of corporate governance, corporate social responsibility and socially responsible investment, in particular for the Federation des Entreprises Romandes (FER).
After receiving a PhD in economics from the University of Geneva in 1989, I joined the Pension Fund of the Canton of Geneva (CPEG) as deputy director and from 1994 to 1998 as CEO. In this function, I was co-founder of the Ethos Foundation in 1997 and of the company Ethos Services in 2000, two institutions fully dedicated to the promotion of sustainable investments. CEO of both organizations until 2015, I was subsequently chairman of their boards of directors from 2015 until June 2018.
In 2012, I was the laureate of the Landis & Gyr Award in recognition of my personal commitment to the implementation of corporate governance best practice and the principles of sustainable development in investment activities. In 2013, the University of Fribourg awarded me an honorary degree for my contribution to the adoption of good governance by Swiss companies and my commitment to socially responsible investment. In 2015, I was nominated Alumnus of the Year of the University of Geneva.
